Online Training

Online Training Information

Always dreamed of studying design at the top school in the country, but have too many commitments to pack up and move? Want to become a travel agent, but can't afford to take time off from your day job for classes? These are just two of the dilemmas that can be solved by taking online training. Online training, or e-learning, allows students to take classes from home during their free time using their personal computer. The versatility of the internet has caused many courses that used to be offered as "distance" or "correspondence" programs to become online study programs. It has also opened the door allowing training in a variety of other fields to go online. Even programs such as flight training or police training that require some hands-on instruction, offer much of their theory work through online learning.

With online training students communicate with instructors via e-mail or chat groups and usually send in assignments as e-mail documents. Streaming video or web cams can be used to broadcast a teacher's lecture or demonstration, which can be much more entertaining than just reading the textbook at home. Many online courses also feature interactive quizzes so students can monitor their progress and additional information to help clarify particularly complex topics. Through posting boards and chat groups students can also contact other students in their program to seek help or hold group discussions.

The reasons for taking online training are almost as varied as the number of programs available. Online training is ideal for anyone who can't find the courses they want in their own area, or who can't fit on campus courses into their schedule because of other responsibilities, such as work or child rearing. Some people complete an entire career training program through online learning, while others use it to upgrade their skills or take a couple of courses that will later count towards their degree. In some cases online learning is less expensive than on campus study because students pay only for the course and its materials. Students taking online training usually have to make their own arrangements to pay an internet service provider for the time they will be spending online. Aside from that, the only expenses will be the cost of a computer, any upgrades it needs, and the tuition for the training course.

Online training can be found by browsing through course catalogues for various colleges and universities or by searching for the training topic on an internet search engine such as the one provided by Focus On Training. If you're taking an online course that will be part of a degree program at another school be sure to verify that the credits will be transferrable. If you're planning to take a full training program online, such as real estate agent training, verify that the training is accepted by the approval board or employers in your area. Many programs offered in one country don't qualify as appropriate training in another. It's important to ensure that you have chosen an acceptable program before you begin.
